Island Life

Well I decided to bitethe bullet and hire a motobike, I was fed up of not seeing any of the islands. After a shaky start with James flying off and almost crashing into a shop, and gashing his toe. He mananged to get back on and have another go and we were zooming across the island, going all the way around and accross the middle twice, I truely have seen the whole of Ko Lanta.

The next day was spent on a day trip snorkeling to Ko Phi Phi, the main island was pretty touristy and not that nice, but the little longtail boat took us around the surrounding islands and we saw some great caves and "The Beach" was was not that nice and full of boats, it looked much nicer in the film. Our group had lunch on a tiny beach to the side as it cost 200b to go on the island.... and walk amonst the litter. There were some pretty amazing fish and corals and we even stopped off top feed the monkeys our left over fruit from lunch, they were so tame they were taking it right from your hands, even the mothers carring babies, one monkey kept jumping in the water and swimming.

On our return to Ko Lanta I managed to drive the motobike into a plant pot.... woops not quite so funny at the time, I am fine though (seriously Mum) but don't think i'm going risk getting one again.

We travelled down towards Ko Taurato, to see the National Park, but ended up on Ko Lipe, still in the park but slightly more built up... with bars and internet access for James. The island was really quite and peacefull, I was sunbathing with only four other people on the whole beach, I'm not sure I will ever experience that again. It's also been the first island where there has been no stinging plankton.... which really do sting..... and it hurts, so that was a highlight for me.

The speed boat over to Malaysia actually was a speedboat (I had serious doubts after the last experience) and only took an hour. I can definatly see the increased wealth in Malaysia and this is only an island, off to to Georgtown tommorrow I think.

Lots of love to all
